How can we help you manage the climate transition?

A dramatic challenge for investors

Tony Campos

Head of Sustainable Investment, Index Investments Group

Climate change poses a dramatic challenge for investors. It’s a challenge on a scale we haven’t seen before.

There’s no single way of addressing it. So when we sit down with our clients, we try to find pathways to define objectives and arrive at the right outcomes.

We try to help clients manage risks from a total portfolio perspective. In our climate change datasets, we apply robust principles but at the same time we want to be client- and partner-led.

We want to work with asset owners to help define market standards and ultimately, to achieve a consensus on the climate transition.

That requires expertise, partnership and the ability to evolve and be flexible.

It’s a challenge on a scale we haven’t seen before.

Getting to net zero

Solange le Jeune

Director, SI Products

There's a lot of discussion about “how do we get to net zero?”

As a data provider and index firm, we can help answer the “how” by getting clients to understand what’s involved.

That requires a holistic mindset and an objective approach to the subject, combined with a commitment to independent data and research.

We want to help clients unpack and uncover the many different parts of the climate transition.

There’s also a question of scale. If climate change used to be something that could be viewed from the sidelines, now it’s in the mainstream. It’s the entire economy and the entire society which need to transform themselves.

That connects with the scale of the services we provide and the scalability of our solutions. We need to cover all asset classes and different types of investment strategies.

That requires a holistic mindset and an objective approach to the subject, combined with a commitment to independent data and research.

Starting with the right investment

Aled Jones

Head of Sustainable Investment Solutions

The climate transition starts with the right investment to help drive the right economic changes, and that’s where FTSE Russell steps in.

In our business—the provision of indices and benchmarks, together with the associated data and analytics—planning and partnership are increasingly important.

We work closely with asset owners. We want to be informed by what they are doing and where they are going as we develop solutions to help advance the climate transition.

In turn, they increasingly rely on our research and analytics tools.

For example, FTSE Russell is the data provider to the Transition Pathway initiative (TPI), a global initiative led by asset owners. It assesses how individual companies are positioning themselves for the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Our annual report on the size of the global green economy is another great source of information. Our “Scope 3” report is a further example of our thought leadership that helps inform the climate debate.

We want to collaborate to integrate new ideas and datasets into our core benchmarks across equities, fixed income, real estate and infrastructure.
